We’re quickly approaching that time of year that you either love or hate: new years. New Year, New Me, New *insert-your-goal-here*.
I’ll admit, I fall firmly in the hate category until around January 5th.
But once the haze of having no schedule during the holidays has worn off, the decs are down, and I’m back in a routine that still includes a daily grumbling of “why does it have to be so dark, so early”… THEN I fall into the camp of loving the New Year and the possibilities it brings.
My favorite part as a virtual assistant for creatives? Touching base with all of my clients and seeing where their head is at. As someone who sits firmly in the integrator/VA seat, I’m always so inspired by the creatives I work with!
They get to tell me their big picture dream, and then I help them find ways to break it down into smaller goals & actually make it happen. We discuss everything from what worked well/didn’t work for them last year, to if they’re hoping to scale this year, or if they’re ready for more work-life balance.
If you’re hoping to set goals for your business in 2026 or make some big changes, here are a few questions to ask yourself from a VA’s perspective:
- Were there a lot of bottlenecks/friction in your business last year? Can you narrow it down to one part of your process? If so, is it a job you need to do yourself or can it be delegated?
- How are the day-to-day processes of your business? Do systems need to be reworked? Automated? Do you need to streamline aspects of your production process?
- What next move are you hoping to make in your business? How long do you think it’ll take to come to fruition? What’s the reason behind this next step?
- Did you meet your financial goal last year? If not, what changes can you make to meet it this year?
- Are there any parts of your business that need to be updated & refreshed? For example: client-facing materials, website copy/images, etc.
- Review your resolutions/goals for your business from last year. Is there anything on that list that you didn’t accomplish yet, but want to try again on this year?
- How will you make progress on these goals? How much time per week are you hoping to devote to each goal? With your current schedule, will you actually have time to work on these goals or do you need to bring someone in to make it happen?
I love coming alongside my clients & guiding them through their annual planning process. Not only do I act as a sounding board as someone who knows the ins-and-outs of their business, but also as a project manager who can take each goal and break it down into a timeline with actionable steps. Bonus for my ongoing clients: I also do the work throughout the year to help bring each goal to life!
If you’ve struggled with annual planning in years past, 2026 can be your year!
